Lamborghini management and its parent company, Volkswagen, have jointly issued a statement regarding the commencement of the production of Lamborghini Urus, one of the keenly anticipated SUVs from the Volkswagen family. According to the announcement, the company is planning to start URUS at its production plant in Slovakia. This is the first time Lamborghini is foraying into ultra luxury SUV. The Slovakian plant is already into producing other SUV models such as the Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7.

Lamborghini is planning to build the SUV based on the MLB platform, the same platform that is being used for building Porsche Cayenne. In order to take on the excess capacity, Volkswagen is planning to increase press machinery in the factory. This would help in the increased production of aluminum and steel car body panels. Volkswagen is also planning to decrease the weight of its SUV models across different models by increasing the presence of aluminum panels. Auto experts are eagerly waiting for the Urus SUV as it created quite a buzz when it was unveiled during the Beijing Auto Show in 2012. This expectation has grown multiple times as it would be the first luxury SUV from Lamborghini.
