Comedy legend Dick Van Dyke had a rough day on the road last week when his Jaguar XJ caught fire and was burned beyond repair. He was traveling on US Highway 101 near Calabasas, California, when he heard a strange noise coming from the car. Once he had pulled over, he noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood of the Jaguar. An off-duty rescue worker noticed Van Dyke on the side of the road in the smoking vehicle, and pulled him out of the car before it caught fire. Van Dyke reported that he had thought that he had a flat tire, and was apparently attempting to call the DMV when the bystander happened upon the scene. The vent was also caught on video, showing the Jaguar in flames and then exploding violently. Van Dyke was not seriously injured during the incident, and was jovial in interviews with the media. However, it was somewhat unclear why he remained in the vehicle after he pulled off the road, and also why he had attempted to call the DMV instead of emergency services. Another Jaguar car also burned up not long ago, and whether this will be an ongoing trend for the high end automobile brand is as yet uncertain.
